We are committed to being open and clear about how we work. Wherever possible, we try to provide information about how we manage our business and finances.

Allowances and expenses for Councillors

Councillors receive allowances and expenses for doing their council duties as part of the Scheme of Members Allowances.

Our climate change strategy

We have developed a strategy for tackling climate change in East Sussex.

Council tax and our finances

We also publish details about where our money comes from, how we look after it and how we spend it.

Current contracts

We buy goods and services from a range of suppliers. Our Contract Register features current contracts valued at over £50,000 – including a brief description, value and expiry date.

Payments to suppliers over £500

We publish details of payments over £500 made to our suppliers to increase transparency.

Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act means that we must share as much information available as possible and respond to requests within 20 working days.

Senior council officers and councillors

Under the Local Government Transparency Code 2015, we have a statutory requirement to publish certain information about senior officers within the council.

Trade union facilities time

Under the Local Government Transparency Code 2015, we have a statutory requirement to publish information about trade unions’ facilities time and cost.

In addition, we are required to publish similar data under The Trade Union (Facility Time Publication Requirements) Regulations 2017.

People Strategy

East Sussex County Council’s People Strategy, developed to help achieve the people changes needed over the next 3–5 years.

Parking

Under the Local Government Transparency Code 2015, we have a statutory requirement to publish information about the number of parking spaces we control.
