Make a Freedom of Information request

What we need to know

You don’t have to say why you want the information, but you must make your request in writing – by post, email, via our website (below) or even via social media. You need to provide us with:

  • your name and a return address (postal or electronic)
  • details of what you want to know. Please be as precise as possible, to ensure that we provide the information you want. Enquiries that are too general may take a long time to research and may be refused if they are expected to exceed the appropriate time limit. If you are not sure how to phrase your request, please see the Information Commissioner’s Office Guidance or get in touch with us first so we can help you.

Once we receive your request you will receive an acknowledgement letter detailing the deadline for response. We are required to answer your request within 20 working days. If we require further clarification from you at any point during the process, we will inform you and your request will be put on hold pending receipt of clarification. The days that your request is pending do not count towards the 20 working day limit, so please reply as soon as possible to avoid any delay to your information being disclosed.

If there is a reason why the information cannot be released, for example, if it is exempt from disclosure, we will tell you why. Before you make your request, it might be helpful to see what information we already publish and what we can’t tell you.

Freedom of Information requests

What happens next?

If some of the information you have requested is exempt, we may be required to carry out a Public Interest Test and we will inform you of this as soon as possible. This allows us a further 20 working days to come to a final decision on whether to release the information or not.

If after we have closed your request you are dissatisfied with how we have handled it then you can request an Internal Review.

Most requests are now published on our disclosure log but this will never include your personal data.

Accessibility

Please let us know if there are any adjustments we can make for you in order to receive information from us or enable you to contact us.

If you need a copy of any of the information above in a different format such as large print, coloured background, Braille or in a different language then please contact us and we will be happy to help.
