Crowborough HWRS closed 7 and 14 January
Crowborough household waste recycling site is closed for essential maintenance on Wednesday 7 January and Wednesday 14 January. It is not possible to book slots to visit on these days. We apologise for any inconvenience.
We accept general household waste and recycling at our sites. No trade waste is permitted.

Chemicals
Small amounts of household chemicals will be accepted in sealed and clearly labelled containers.
Examples include garden weedkiller and pesticide, bleach, white spirit.

Clothes/shoes
Clothes, shoes, handbags and belts are accepted for recycling.
We do not recycle bedding, sheets, duvets and pillows. Put them in general household waste bin.

Electrical goods
All electrical devices from home are accepted for recycling. This includes:
- white goods such as cookers, fridges, freezers, dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers
- TVs, monitors and laptops
- small kitchen appliances such as kettles, toasters, blenders and microwaves
- personal care products such as hairdryers, straighteners, electric toothbrushes and shavers
- technology such as radios, CD/DVD players, electronic toys and games, telephones, mobile phones, printers and cameras
- garden or DIY tools such as electric lawn mowers, strimmers, shredders, drills and power tools
- other items such as electric lamps, torches, Christmas tree lights, vacuum cleaners, irons, and smoke alarms
- Engine oil

Fire extinguishers
Only domestic extinguishers from home are accepted.
- Small extinguishers up to 1 litre or 1kg
- One per household per visit
- Fluorescent tubes/energy saving bulbs

- Furniture

- Green garden waste/Christmas trees

Hardcore/rubble - charges apply
Includes stonework, bricks, rock, clay, sand, gravel, tarmac, concrete, paving slabs, tiles, ceramic bathroom fittings and more.
Residents can dispose of small amounts of hardcore/rubble. Charges apply to any waste over the free allowance.

Plasterboard - charges apply
Residents can dispose of small amounts of plasterboard. Charges apply to any waste over the free allowance.
- Free allowance: up to two 50 litre bags or one sheet (1800 x 900 mm) per week
- £6.30 for each extra bag or sheet

Plastic bottles
Put plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays and bags in your recycling bin at home.
At the tip we only accept plastic bottles for recycling.
Other plastic goes in general waste - plastic pots, tubs and trays, plastic bags or bubble wrap.
Empty plant pots are hard plastic. They are only accepted at tips in Crowborough, Eastbourne, Heathfield, Maresfield, Newhaven, Seaford.

Plastic hard
Hard plastic items accepted for recycling:
- plastic storage containers
- buckets and bins
- plastic patio furniture
- large children’s toys
- plastic gutters, downpipes and utility pipes
- wheelie bins
- compost bins and water butts
- plastic plant pots (empty)
- car bumpers
- traffic cones and barriers
We do not recycle the following items. Put them in the general waste instead.
- brittle plastics that shatter easily, such as coat hangers, CD cases
- upholstered plastics, such as child car seats
- empty containers of oil, grease, paint or chemicals
- mastic tubes
- video tapes, CDs, small children’s toys
- empty food packaging, such as plastic bottles, tubs, trays
- fibreglass, such as baths
- rubber products, such as hoses, matting, netting
- general hard plastic waste
- Printer cartridges

Soil - charges apply
Residents can dispose of small amounts of soil. Charges apply to any waste over the free allowance.

Visiting our site
All users must book in advance from 24 November 2025. Cars are allowed at all tips. Restrictions apply to other vehicles.
- Van restrictions
Vans on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays only. Limits on weight and type of van allowed. - Vehicle height limit 2 metres
