Just remember, keep it clean, dry and loose.

  • Clean - no food left in jars, tins, yoghurt pots or meat trays
  • Dry - empty liquids from bottles, no wet paper or card
  • Loose - put items straight into the bin, not in black bin bags

You must book in advance before visiting a tip. The easiest way is to book a visit online.

Everyone must book - drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. This includes visitors to the reuse shop. You can book a visit for the same day, and up to 14 days in advance.

Whatever vehicle you are using, you must book in advance before you go to the tip.

You can take a car to any tip. This includes using taxis.

Vehicle restrictions

There are some vehicle restrictions. These include:

  • which days you can visit
  • which vehicles are allowed
  • size of vehicle 
  • pedestrians and cyclists not allowed at some sites

Vans are only allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There are limits on the type of van, weight and height. No trade waste is permitted.

Trailers are allowed every day but the length of trailer is limited depending on the site you visit.

Vehicles must be registered in the UK so that they can be checked on the DVLA database.

Trade or business waste is not accepted at our household waste recycling sites. People with this waste should go to a licensed commercial waste facility. This includes:

  • businesses
  • tradespeople (such as plumbers and electricians)
  • professional gardeners
  • landlords
