Join a waiting list

You can add your child to a waiting list for any of the schools in your original application. 

If a space becomes free, the school uses its admissions policy to decide who they can take. 

That means: 

  • it will look at things like how close your child lives and other individual factors 
  • it won’t decide on a first-come-first-served basis

For  the majority  of academy, trust, free or church aided schools you will need to contact them directly to ask to join their waiting list. We do operate the waiting list for some, they are listed below.

For Reception or Year 7 in September 2026

To join a waiting list  for a community controlled school (or Mulberry Academy Hastings, Mulberry Academy St Leonards or The Turing School) please email your child’s:

  • name
  • date of birth
  • address
  • relevant siblings and
  • the name(s) of the schools whose waiting list you wish to join

to wlphase@eastsussex.gov.uk

The waiting list deadline is 27 March 2026 and we will not be able to provide information on where your child is on the waiting list until 30 March 2026.

Your child will remain on this list until December 2026. 

If a place becomes available for your child, you will be notified in writing. Your child’s original allocation will automatically be withdrawn. This is because children can only have one school place at one time. This applies until children start school. After that you will have 10 school days to accept the offer.

If you wish to withdraw from a waiting list at any time, you must do so in writing to the Admissions and Transport team

  • relevant siblings and
  • the name(s) of the schools whose waiting list you wish to join

Please email  wlinyear@eastsussex.gov.uk

Waiting lists need to be renewed over the Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays. If you don't email us to renew this your child will be removed from the list.
