Certificate Ordering
Birth, death and marriage registers for the Hastings, Eastbourne and Lewes areas (1837–2008) are currently undergoing essential preservation work to safeguard them for future generations.
Certificates from these registers can still be ordered from the General Register Office (GRO):

This does not affect:
- registers from 2009 to present day
- registers for the Crowborough registration district
- marriage registers at places of worship
If we cannot fulfil your certificate order, we will notify you and provide a full refund.
If you are applying for a certificate for the death of a child below 16 years of age which occurred within the last 50 years, you should supply all of the following information;
- Surname of deceased
- Forename(s) of deceased
- Date of death
- Age at death
- Place of death / last known address
- Relationship to deceased
- Father’s forename
- Father’s surname
- Mother’s forename
- Mother’s surname
If you cannot supply this information, you may be asked to provide an explanation for the gaps in the information provided, and your certificate application may be rejected and refunded.
