What are TROs?

Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) are legal Orders that allow East Sussex County Council, as the local highway authority, to manage the use of roads in the county.

TROs can affect:

  • parking places
  • waiting, loading and unloading bays
  • yellow lines (double and single)
  • taxi ranks
  • prohibitions of vehicles
  • one-way streets
  • turning bans
  • vehicle weight restrictions
  • bus and cycle lanes
  • speed limits

Why are TROs proposed?

TROs are proposed for a variety of reasons:

  • To address safety concerns
  • To comply with a condition of granting planning consent
  • To make the most efficient use of the available kerb space, taking into account the competing needs of residents, shoppers, visitors and business owners

What do TROs implement?

TROs can be divided into those that are static and those that affect moving traffic:

  • yellow lines (double and single)
  • taxi ranks

Moving traffic

  • one-way streets
  • turning bans

  • speed limits
