Comment on a proposed new TRO
As well as being advertised in the local press, details of any new proposed Traffic Regulation Order are published on the East Sussex County Council consultation hub, which hosts all council consultations:
East Sussex - Consultation Hub
To find Traffic Regulation Orders, check the ‘Open Consultations’ section or select ‘See All Closed Consultations’. Alternatively, you can use the search function (try ‘TRO’ or ‘Traffic Regulation Order’). Once you have navigated to a Traffic Regulation Order consultation, you will be able to view the following details:
- A draft of the proposed Order
- Plans of the proposed new restriction(s)
- The reasons behind the proposed new restriction(s)
- The formal Notice advertising the proposed Order
The TRO process
A new TRO is subject to a four-stage process of consultation and consideration of representations. This means that any proposal may be implemented in full, in part or withdrawn due to objections or representations at the formal consultation stage. Anyone can object to, or support, any proposed traffic order.
Any response to the proposals must be made in writing, either by letter, email or through the consultation hub. Points to consider when preparing a response are:
- Concentrate on the details of the restrictions, rather than the background of the scheme
- Provide reasons for your support or opposition to the proposed Order, rather than a general statement
- A restriction cannot be increased (i.e. a length of double yellow line made longer or a speed limit lowered beyond that proposed) without a further consultation exercise
- Provide contact details, including postal or email address, so that the project officers are able to address the points you raise in response
In East Sussex, objections to proposed Orders that are not withdrawn are presented to the Planning Committee. Objectors will be written to and have the opportunity to attend the committee meeting to give their views.
The committee will consider each objection and recommend whether to uphold it or not.
