Renewing an older persons bus pass
These pages are for East Sussex bus pass holders. It tells you about:
- how we renew concessionary bus passes
- what to do if your pass is damaged, lost or stolen
Bus passes are issued for up to five years. If you have scanned your pass in the 12 months before renewal we will send you a new one automatically, this will arrive a few weeks before your current pass expires.
- If your pass has not been scanned locally in the 12 months before renewal it will not be automatically renewed.
- If you have moved and not notified us it may not have been renewed or may have been sent to the wrong address. See tell us about a change.
I have not had an automatic renewal what do I do?

If you do email us please confirm your date of birth and current address in the email so we can fully check our records.
Renewing a disabled persons bus pass
Bus passes are issued for anything up to 5 years, although it can be less in some cases where proof is temporary. It will depend on your disability and the proof provided at the time of application.
- If your disability is temporary, or likely to change over time, you will need to reapply. We will normally contact you one month before your current pass expires and ask to provide proof of your disability.
- If your disability has been assessed by us as long term, or unlikely to change over time, we will renew automatically in as many cases as possible. We may still contact you at renewal if we need additional proof.
You must also tell us about a change in address or your renewal letter or bus pass may be sent to the wrong address.

Replacing a lost, stolen or damaged pass
If your bus pass is lost, stolen or visibly damaged the easiest way to let us know is online.
If you cannot apply online:
- Call our bus pass information line on 0300 33 09 471 (local rate – Lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 4 pm) and pay over the phone. They can also advise alternate payment methods at local banks.
- You can also pay by post, please make a cheque payable to “East Sussex ENCTS” sent to East Sussex Bus Pass, PO Box 212, Waterlooville, PO7 6ZN. Please include a note confirming you need a replacement and your details.
A charge of £10 will be made for issuing a replacement bus pass. Replacement charges for stolen passes will be waived if you have a crime number.
Bus pass is not working

Your bus pass is in date but does not scan
An older person's bus pass or disabled person's bus pass can be cancelled electronically even though the date on the front is still valid. This is known as hot listing. Once this has happened, the bus is no longer valid for free travel. This may happen if your pass was reported lost or stolen or has been used fraudulently.

If you are not currently an East Sussex County Council bus pass holder then please apply for a new pass (first concessionary travel bus pass as resident of this Authority).
