Preparing for Moderation (Key Stage 2 Writing only)
This supportive, in-person event will focus on ensuring that Year 6 teachers can make accurate end of key stage 2 assessments in writing and are fully prepared for moderation (both statutory and informal events). It will provide an opportunity for Year 6 teachers to check their understanding of the assessment framework and apply this understanding to pupils' work. The event will run as a 'mock' moderation meeting where teachers will be able to practise discussing their judgements with a moderator, supporting them to articulate and justify their judgements with clear evidence and providing them with the skills to challenge a judgement if required.
Training objectives
- To ensure that teachers fully understand the requirements of the statutory framework for writing
- To prepare teachers for the rigour of statutory moderation and enable them to effectively articulate their understanding of the standards
- To give teachers the confidence to challenge judgements they disagree with and support them to use the evidence to justify their own judgement
- To provide opportunities for schools to share good practice pertaining to all aspects of assessment
- To ensure that teacher assessments at the end of key stage 2 for writing are accurate and consistent across the county
Who can attend this course?
