1. Help with household items

You will need to fit one of the circumstances below:

  • You move into a new property after a period of homelessness, after time in rehabilitation, prison or supported accommodation, or after a family breakdown.

    You must tell us where you have moved from and why you do not have the items being requested already.

    You must apply before moving in to your new property or within 1 month of moving in.

  • You move into a new property with minimal notice, and you do not already have the items you request.

    You must tell us why you do not already have the item being requested.

    You must provide evidence of the date the tenancy was offered and the date the tenancy starts.

    You must apply before moving in to your new property or within 1 month of moving in.

  • Certain essential items break down and are needed immediately.

    You must provide evidence that the item cannot be repaired.

    The only items covered in this circumstance are a cooker, or if there are children in the home or there is a medical reason, a washing machine or fridge-freezer.

  • You have suffered a fire, flood or similar disaster. You must provide evidence of the disaster.
  • Your need a microwave because of a change in your home meals provider.

    Your application must be made by your social worker.
  • Your have no recourse to public funds, but have been assessed as eligible for help from Adult Social Care, and you do not have the means to obtain essential items.

    The only household items we can provide are:
  • Beds
  • Bedding
  • Cooking facilities
  • Fridge-freezer
  • Floor coverings if there is a medical reason they are needed. You will have to provide evidence.
  • Heater if there is no source of heating in the property.
  • Washing machine if there are children in the home or there is a medical reason it is needed. You will have to provide evidence.
  • Removal costs when the move is recommended by social services to meet a social care need.
