The Run fostering film
Produced by over 90 councils across the country.
We have come together to share some of the reasons why a young person needs to live with foster carers when their own parents cannot keep them safe.
Focussing on 11 year old Tom, who often feels uncomfortable in the situations surrounding him, the relevance of the film's title becomes real. Tom runs away from a neglectful and chaotic home life, away from danger and he runs to school early for breakfast club because he's so hungry. This is mirrored with running as a sport for which he didn't even have kit for PE at school. The story shows how vulnerable children can get into risky situations.
Tom is welcomed into the home of foster carers, Daniel and Melissa, along with their family dog. Here, Tom finds a safe place to call home and despite his disadvantages, he becomes good at running for sport.
With the support of his foster carers, he takes part in an athletics tournament, running on a track in a stadium. 'On track' now in his life, Tom builds relationships with adults he can trust and share his celebrations with too.

Foster Carers are self-employed, 'work from home' and receive payment for this unique role:
· Weekly payments plus additional allowances and tax benefits
· Ongoing professional support from our team and other experienced foster carers
· Comprehensive training and wellbeing offer
· The chance to make a real difference to local children
There are many types of fostering - you can choose to start with what will work best for your family or lifestyle. It can be short-term or long-term, from a few days to a few months, or many years.
Foster carers are not perfect, but they are present. They offer kindness, stability and a sense of belonging to those children and young people at a time when they need it most.
You will need to have some experience of caring for children (you do not need to be a parent yourself to foster, experience could be from looking after a niece or nephew, work in a childcare setting or maybe you were a sports coach for a kids' team).
Your home does need a spare bedroom for the child to have their own space. By fostering with your not-for-profit local authority fostering service, you can give children the chance to thrive.
