The story centres around Mike's family who fostered for many years. Mike's wife organises a surprise 60th birthday party for him and invites friends, family and some of the children they fostered.

Guests share their memories in the garden of the house the family still lives in. These highlight the emotional journeys fostering brings. Many fostered children stay in touch with their foster carers into adulthood. In the film, we see strong bonds between Mike's family and two particular foster children, Will and Zara. They come along to the party and the film shows flashbacks from their arrival at the house to the present day.

This is an honest representation of how challenges are overcome and life-long bonds are formed. The narrative is a tribute to everyone involved in the foster care system and the difference each person makes to the lives of many. It is an emotional exploration of love, resilience, connections, and positivity.
