Children’s homes in East Sussex

There are currently six residential children’s homes and one secure children’s home in East Sussex. We have four residential homes for looked-after children. There are also two children’s homes that offer respite and long-term care for children with disabilities.

Residential children’s homes

We have four residential children’s homes along the Sussex coast. They provide a warm and homely environment with all the conditions for children to thrive. Each home is a standard domestic dwelling, set within pleasant residential areas. They are located in:

  • Eastbourne
  • Seaford
  • St Leonards-on-Sea

Each home can accommodate children of either gender. Three homes can have up to four children. One home can have five children, from ages 8 to 18.

Our other two homes, Acorns in Bexhill and The Bungalow in Eastbourne, are small respite and residential homes. They support children and young people with learning disabilities, aged 7 to 19 years old.

Lansdowne secure children’s home

We run a secure children’s home in Hailsham, which can have up to seven children, aged 10 to 17.

The home includes a school, and we work closely with health services.

Courts can decide to place a child in a secure facility for a limited time for a variety of reasons. While we consider referrals from local authorities across the country, we will only provide a home to children whose court order has been granted on welfare grounds, not for criminal justice reasons.
