50 Councillors were elected. The County Council has:

  • Conservative – 27 (30)
  • Liberal Democrats – 11 (11)
  • Labour – 5 (4)
  • Green – 4 (0)
  • Independents – 3 (5)

The County Council election was held on Thursday 4 May 2017. Following boundary changes in 2016, 50 Councillors were elected. The County Council has:

Electoral boundaries

The number of voters represented by each county councillor should be roughly the same in every electoral division.

Because resident numbers change, electoral arrangements are regularly reviewed by The Boundary Committee for England to make sure voters are fairly represented.

Notice of vacancy

Local Government Act 1972

In accordance with Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, notice is hereby given that a casual vacancy has occurred in the office of councillor of the above county division, due to the death of Councillor Rupert Simmons.

An election to fill the vacancy shall be held within thirty-five days (so computed) after notice in writing of the vacancy has been given to me by two local government electors for the area.
