White Ribbon accreditation
White Ribbon UK is the leading charity in England and Wales engaging with men and boys to prevent violence against women and girls (VAWG).
The organisation addresses the root causes of men’s violence against women. These include harmful attitudes, behaviours and systems that reinforce ideas of gender inequality and gender-based violence.

White Ribbon accredited
We’re proud to be White Ribbon accredited. As part of our accreditation, we’ve developed a three-year action plan. Our plan sets out how we’ll engage men and boys to help end violence against women and girls through strategic leadership, culture change, education, and raising awareness.
Some of the actions we’ve already taken include:
- Raising awareness of domestic abuse with local employers through Public Health’s Wellbeing at Work programme
- Partnering with Lewes Football Club to promote White Ribbon values and signposting support services in our community
We are supported by a network of Champions and Ambassadors. These East Sussex County Council employees help drive our action plan forward.

Why it’s important
The Office for National Statistics reported that 1.6 million women in the UK experienced domestic abuse between March 2022 and March 2023.
Women are also experiencing sexual harassment in public, workplaces, and schools across the UK.
In 2021, the organisation UN Women reported that 70% of women had experienced sexual harassment in public. In 2033, a poll of 1,000 women by Trade Unions Congress found 3 in 5 had experienced sexual harassment, bullying or verbal abuse in the workplace. This rose to two-thirds of women in the 25 to 34 age bracket.
The feminist organisation End Violence against Women reported in 2023 that nearly a quarter of girls said they’d experienced unwanted sexual touching while attending a mixed sex school.
