Cycle training for children
The following courses are offered at the, Eastbourne Cycle Centre:
Bikeability Learn to Ride
Cost: £21
Duration: 45 minutes
When: During all school holidays, usually on the Wednesday. 5 sessions throughout the day.
Learn to Ride sessions are delivered as a 1:1 session, providing coaching in a safe traffic free environment. The sessions work towards the trainee being able to ride a bike unaided using basic control skills. (NB.,) More than one session may be required.
Cycle training for adults
All adult training sessions are usually delivered on a Monday but with notice we can often be flexible with dates and times.
Adult Beginners
Cost: £32
Duration: 1 hour
This coaching session caters for complete beginners and for those who may be just a bit rusty, teaching you to learn to cycle independently and providing basic cycle control skills. These include starting and pedalling, stopping, manoeuvring, signalling and using the gears. It is carried out in a traffic free area.
Adult Confidence Builder
Individual
Cost: £32
Duration: 1 hour
This coaching session is for those cyclists who feel they require a better understanding of cycling on today’s roads, in order to be able cycle from home to college or work. Training takes place on quiet roads to begin, with real traffic conditions giving the skills and confidence to make these trips safely and independently.
Adult Bikeability Level 3
Cost: £32
Duration: up to 2 hours
Develops the basic skills and knowledge for cyclists to make journeys in a variety of quiet and more demanding traffic conditions competently, confidently and consistently.
Fix It Bike Maintenance
Cost: £30
Duration: 1 hours
This workshop is for those cyclists who wish to be able to perform basic maintenance on their own bikes, including mending punctures, removing and replacing wheels, adjusting brakes, adjusting gears and generally finding their way around the bike. Workshops can be tailored for the individual or for the family.
Become a professional cyclist instructor
We at East Sussex Cycle Training work in partnership with Outspoken as a Recognised Delivery Centre (RDC). Whether you would like to be a Cycle Trainer as your full-time job or you just want to pass on some skills at your local school or youth club, undertaking the National Standard Instructor training is the first step.
Step 1 – four day course
The course covers all aspects of cycle training with reference to the National Standard outcomes and risk management. Participants receive provisional accreditation. The course includes:
- four day course with two qualified instructor trainers
- course materials (workbook, manual and model documentation)
- registration on the National Database
Step 2 – post-course assessment (PCA) within six months of your course
The PCA gives you full accreditation while we observe you working with real trainees where you work.
- usually takes place over two sessions
- we support you and agree targets for your final evaluation
