Bikeability
What is Bikeability?
A Bikeability course gives children (and adults at the: Eastbourne Cycle Centre) the skills they need for riding their bikes on the road. It also encourages children to think independently and make informed decisions.
Bikeability – cycling proficiency for the 21st century
All our training is carried out by qualified National Standard Instructors who have been trained in emergency first aid and are DBS checked.
There are three Bikeability levels. Each course is designed to improve cycling skills.
- Level 1: learn basic skills in traffic free environment (Year 3+)
- Level 2: Short journeys such as cycling to school on quieter roads (Year 5+)
- Level 3: More challenging roads and traffic situations (Year 6+)
Children must be able to ride unaided to take part in the courses.
Bikeability in schools
The Cycle Team can provide Bikeability courses to all schools across East Sussex. Schools may book as many courses as they have the demand for, our hope is that every child in the year group has the opportunity to benefit from this important and valuable life skill.
Courses are booked via the school and a Level 2 course consist of up to five 90-minute sessions.
There is a charge to the training, please contact the school directly or the Cycle training Team for further details.
