Application to the Government’s Structures Fund

The Council has applied for funding to repair part of the A259 between Newhaven and Peacehaven. The A259 sits on an embankment which has been moving slowly for many years. This has caused cracks and uneven areas in the road which need regular repairs.

The funding would be used to strengthen the embankment. This should stop it moving and provide a long-term solution. We would also use the funding to repair the road, pavement and cycleway.

We expect to hear if the bid is successful in autumn 2026. If funding is awarded, we will start to make plans and will share more information on our website. If funding is not awarded, we will continue to repair the road and shared footway/cycleway when needed to keep it safe.
