Local Authority Active Travel Self-Assessment Score

In August 2022 Active Travel England (ATE) invited all local authorities to undertake an initial self-assessment of their own performance on active travel. This involved selecting a level between 0 to 4 against a series of criteria. It was Active Travel England’s expectation that most local authorities would score either a Level 1 or Level 2.

ESCC’s self-assessed score for Active Travel is a Level 1. This was based on the assessment and the provision of evidence relating to three key factors:-

  • Local leadership and support
  • LCWIP Maturity
  • Schemes delivered

Following an assurance process by ATE this score was confirmed which has resulted in ESCC being eligible to bid for active travel revenue and capital funding up to 2023/2024.

ESCC was able to exceed the level 1 score on certain elements of the assessment. Therefore, with ATE committed to work with local authorities to support future scheme design and ongoing monitoring of the self-assessed scores, ESCC look forward to working in partnership with ATE and local partners to improve this score.
