Privacy notice - Support for women in business and aspiring female entrepreneurs in East Sussex
Overview
This privacy notice covers individuals and businesses that have opted to receive email updates on future support for women in business and aspiring female entrepreneurs (related to the ‘Swift’ project) from the East Sussex Economic Development Team. It also covers those who have registered to attend a specific event or workshop.
East Sussex County Council takes data protection seriously. Please be assured that your information will be used appropriately in line with data protection legislation, will be stored securely and will not be processed unless the requirements for fair and lawful processing can be met.

How will your information be used?
If you have subscribed to our updates, we will use this information to email you with updates on our support for women in business and aspiring female entrepreneurs including events and other opportunities. We will use the location information to:
- confirm you are based in East Sussex
- understand our reach across the County
- enable us to pick convenient locations for events
The same information will also be used when registering for a workshop or event. Phone numbers will be used if we need to contact you.
We aim to maintain high standards, adopt best practice for our record keeping and regularly check and report on how we are doing. Your information is never sold for direct marketing purposes.
Our staff are trained to handle your information correctly and protect your confidentiality and privacy.
Your information is processed in the UK or in a country with an adequacy agreement with the UK.
What is the legal basis for processing your information?
Your consent will be requested to process your data when you first register to receive email updates on future support for women in business and aspiring female entrepreneurs (related to the ‘Swift’ project), or register for a workshop we have organised. You can opt out at any point and your information will no longer be held by us.
How long will your information be kept for?
When you subscribe for email updates, we will keep your data until:
- you unsubscribe
- we no longer send updates from the topic to which you are subscribed
For those registered for workshops, we will keep the data of your attendance for a maximum of two years following the workshop or event.
You can opt out of receiving marketing emails from us at any point by emailing us at Economic Development. Please add “Swift Opt out” to the subject line.

Sharing your information
Any sharing of personal data is always done:
- on case-by-case basis
- using the minimum personal data necessary
- with the appropriate security controls in place
- in line with legislation.
Information is only shared with those agencies and bodies who have a "need to know" or where you have consented to the sharing of your personal data to such persons.
