Am I eligible for a primary care worker permit?

Permits can be used by medical professionals who work for organisations that provide urgent health or social care, by visiting patients in their homes where there are residential parking zones.

The permits can only be used when the holder is responding to an urgent or emergency situation and the patient’s condition necessitates a home visit. The permit is not valid and must not be used for any of the reasons below:

  • In connection with any routine non-emergency “home visit”
  • Where the patient is able to attend an appointment in person
  • For parking near or outside hospitals, clinics, health centres, practices or the holders normal work base or home

Permits are virtual, linked to the vehicle registration number, and cannot be transferred.

Where can I park with a permit?

You can park without time limit in:

  • resident permit holder only bays
  • shared use bays (permit holders or time limited)
  • shared use bays (permit holders or paid parking)

It is also valid for up to two hours on yellow lines where there are no loading restrictions in place.

Permits are not valid in any other bay or in any off street car park.

Having a permit does not guarantee a parking space.

The use of primary care worker permits will be regularly monitored to make sure parking reflects compliance with the correct use of the permit. Misuse may result in permits being withdrawn or further applications being rejected.

How much do they cost?

£30 per year.
