Blocked files
Why can't I download my file?
It is usually straightforward to download a file to save and take home with you. However, what does it mean when this sort of message appears?
This means that our filtering system has blocked access to a website or file download because it detected a potential security risk. This does not necessarily mean the site or file is harmful, in the case shown above, the filter identified the site to contain potential gambling content which does not comply with the acceptable usage policy.
In some cases, the site you are trying to access may have an untrusted server certificate. If this happens, you can attempt to access the non-secure version of the site by modifying the URL in your browser’s address bar—remove the “s” from https so it becomes http.
For example:
https://example.com → http://example.com
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, protecting the integrity and security of our network is essential to safeguard all our customers.
Report a blocked site in the People's Network computers in libraries
Please only use the website access in libraries form to report a website that you have tried to use that is blocked by the Smoothwall filtering on our library computers. We can’t guarantee that it will be unblocked, but we will do our best to ensure full access to websites where they are safe to visit.
