How to download eBooks and eAudiobooks
Members of East Sussex Libraries can borrow up to 10 books at a time. The easiest way to read or listen to books is on the app, Libby.
Reading or listening to books on a smartphone or tablet
To read eBooks on your smartphone or tablet, you will need to download an app called ‘Libby’. You can:
- Get Libby at the Apple Store - for Apple devices
- Get Libby at Google Play - for Android devices
The first time you open the app, you will need to register your details. To do this:
- Click the face icon at the top right of the screen.
- Search for East Sussex County Council libraries.
- Click Add A Library Card.
- Click Enter Your Account Details.
- Add your card number and click Next – (not a member? Join the library online).
- Add your PIN – (lost your PIN? Reset your PIN).
You can start to browse and download books straight away.
Kindle users
Kindle e-readers are not compatible with OverDrive in the U.K. If you have a Kindle Fire tablet, you can access books through the OverDrive app for Kindle from Amazon. Find out more.
You can check the compatibility of your device on the Overdrive website.
PC users
If you prefer, you can read or listen to books on your computer or laptop. To do this:
- Visit our partner site - OverDrive.
- Click the Sign in button at the top right of the page.
- Add your card number – (not a member? Join the library online) and click Next.
- Add your PIN – (lost your PIN? Reset your PIN).
You can start to browse and download books straight away.

Listening to eAudiobooks on a smartphone or tablet using BorrowBox
You can also download eAudiobooks using the BorrowBox app. You can:
