Get alerts about school closures

You can find out about school closures within five minutes of a headteacher's announcement

Headteachers enter information into our system, which automatically circulates details:

Live closure news – list of emergency school closures today/tomorrow
These announcements appear automatically on our listings page, on our pages about that school, on our home page and around the site. You can monitor the listings page in real time to check the status of your school.

On our website every school has a page where you can get email or RSS alerts about that school.

Radio

These local radio stations receive our automated email alerts so that they can make announcements:

Alerts about all school closures

For those who need it, we also provide ‘all schools’ alerts to back up our full listings page. These are provided via RSS.

In some circumstances (such as heavy snowfall) this could generate several hundred notices in one morning:

How school closures are publicised

When headteachers tell us about a closure, our system:

  • updates this website with details
  • emails the relevant County Council teams
  • emails the local radio stations
  • emails anyone who has subscribed for alerts about that school
  • creates an RSS alert to those who’ve subscribed (for one or all schools).
