Business Support Case Study: King and McGaw
About the business
- Business name: King and McGaw
- Support programme: Newhaven Business Grants Programme
- Participant name: Ben Nicklen

King and McGaw exists to celebrate art. In the beginning they produced prints on a second-hand screen press. Today they have moved along the Sussex coast with state-of-the-art printing and framing workshops and have expanded to meet global demand.
Why they signed up to the business support programme
We applied for this grant as a way of investing in our business to grow sales and future-proof it for future generations. Our industry is vast and we needed to differentiate ourselves from the market. We wanted to diversify and add new products to our portfolio.

What support they received
King and McGaw successfully received a grant from the Newhaven Business Grants Programme to purchase a new piece of printing equipment that has enabled them to print onto fabric. This has given them endless opportunities with regards to new product generation which in turn will increase productivity, demand and turnover. Alongside this, when demand increases, this unlocks new opportunities for further job creation in the local area.
How this has helped the business
- It has allowed King and McGaw to diversify and expand their product portfolio.
- Allowed them to create a new revenue stream which will ultimately increase demand and turnover.
Wider benefits from supporting this business
Supporting King and McGaw aligns with wider economic growth ambitions by increasing turnover, safeguarding jobs and creating new employment opportunities. It has allowed them to differentiate themselves from their competition, remain competitive and generate new revenue streams, not only for now but also for the future.
Our print team has expanded due to increased demand over recent years. We are expecting this to grow with the addition of our newest machine that we were able to procure within this grant scheme. Due to the vast amount of investment needed for this printer, without applying for funding this would not have been possible.
