The Council's Estate
The Portfolio: East Sussex County Council has a wide and varied property portfolio. The Council’s property portfolio is comprised of 500 properties including Schools, Libraries, Day Centres and Land. The operational portfolio has a net book value of around £992 million. This valuation was undertaken in line with CIPFA requirements and for many of the properties, does not represent the realisable value of the assets if they were to be sold in the open market. Not all premises utilised by the Council are owned by ESCC. Many premises are occupied under lease, licence or via a partnership agreement with other organisations.
Transparency: All data held and managed by local authorities is to be made available to local people when requested, unless there are specific sensitivities in doing so (for example, protecting vulnerable people or commercial / operational considerations). East Sussex County Council have published numerous documents on the ESCC.gov.uk website to aid the public’s understanding of the premises utilised and the principal strategy aims for their management.
