Hastings Borough Bus Service Improvements

Highlights – updates from 23 July 2023 unless otherwise stated

 Ore Down Farm, Clive Vale – New Sunday evening journeys (route 20)

Malvern Way, Downs Road – New later Monday to Saturday evening journeys, plus early and later journeys on Sundays (route 21). Plus new daily mid evening and Sunday morning journeys on route 28 (Conquest Hospital-The Ridge-Malvern Way-Ore village-Westhill-Hastings town centre).

Ore village

  • New Sunday evening journeys (route 22).
  • Route 28 (Conquest Hospital-The Ridge-Malvern Way-Ore village-Westhill-Hastings town centre) new daily mid evening and Sunday morning journeys.
  • Route 31 (Ore village-Malvern Way-Parker Road-Hastings town centre) – Monday to Saturday daytime, evening and Sunday daytime journeys extended to/from Harley Shute via West St Leonards and Filsham Valley.
  • Route 100 ((Rye-Winchelsea-Icklesham-Hastings) – improved Monday to Saturday evening service.
  • Route 101 (Rye-Winchelsea Beach-Pett Level-Fairlight-Hastings) - improved Monday to Saturday evening service.

Bohemia Road – improved Monday to Saturday evening service (routes 99, 100, 101). Plus on Sundays, new 2 hourly service on new route 1066 (Hastings-Bohemia Road-Silverhill-Battle Road-Battle-Robertsbridge-Hurst Green-Hawkhurst-Wadhurst-Tunbridge Wells) and service 99 increased to half-hourly.

Pilot Road, Hoad’s Wood Road, Elphinstone Road – Route 23 to/from Conquest Hospital and Hastings town centre – improved Monday to Friday early morning service, plus new Sunday daytime service.

Westhill, The Ridge - Route 28 (Conquest Hospital-The Ridge-Malvern Way-Ore village-Westhill-Hastings town centre) new daily mid evening and Sunday morning journeys.

Hillside Road, Parkstone Road, Park View, St Helen’s Road - 29 (Hastings town centre-Conquest Hospital-Westfield-Northiam) - new later Monday to Saturday evening journeys to/from Northiam, Conquest Hospital and Hastings, plus new Sunday service also extending to Tenterden.

Conquest Hospital

  • Route 21(Malvern Way-Downs Road-Hastings town centre-St Leonard’s-The Green-Silverhill-Harrow Lane-Conquest Hospital) - New later Monday to Saturday evening journey from the Hospital, plus early and later journeys on Sundays.
  • Route 23 (Hastings town centre-Elphinstone Road-Conquest Hospital) - improved Monday to Friday early morning service, plus new Sunday daytime service.
  • Route 28 (Conquest Hospital-The Ridge-Malvern Way-Ore village-Westhill-Hastings town centre) new daily mid evening and Sunday morning journeys.
  • Route 29 (Hastings town centre-Conquest Hospital-Westfield-Northiam) - new later Monday to Saturday evening journeys to/from Northiam, Conquest Hospital and Hastings, plus new Sunday service also extending to Tenterden.
  • Route 95 (Bexhill-Ninfield-Battle-Conquest Hospital) – new 2 hourly service to/from Conquest Hospital on Saturdays.
  • Route 101(Conquest Hospital-Silverhill-Bohemia Road-Hastings-Old Town-Ore-Fairlight-Winchelsea Beach-Rye) – new later Monday to Saturday evening journey. From 3 September the service is revised on Mondays to Saturdays, with the daytime journeys no longer serving Conquest Hospital, Sedlescombe Road North, Silverhill and Battle Road. The newly introduced Monday to Saturday evening journey from Conquest Hospital will continue to run, departing the hospital at 20:45, though routed via Harrow Lane instead of Sedlescombe Road North.

West St Leonard’s, Filsham Valley, Harley Shute – Route 31 (Ore village-Malvern Way-Parker Road-Hastings town centre) – Monday to Saturday daytime, evening and Sunday daytime journeys extended to/from Harley Shute via West St Leonards and Filsham Valley. The Monday to Saturday evening route 22C journeys which currently serve Harley Shute are replaced by route 31 at these times.

The Green, Upper Maze Hill – Route 21(Malvern Way-Downs Road-Hastings town centre-St Leonard’s-The Green-Silverhill-Harrow Lane-Conquest Hospital) - New later Monday to Saturday evening journeys, plus early and later journeys on Sundays.

St Leonards seafront (west of London Road) and Bexhill Road

  • Route 98 Monday to Saturday daytime frequency between Bexhill town centre, Pebsham and Hastings improved to 20 minutes. New hourly Monday to Saturday evening service between Hastings and Sidley with certain journeys extending to/from Hailsham and Eastbourne, plus new earlier Sunday journeys between Hastings and Sidley.
  • On Sundays route 99 (Hastings-Bexhill-Eastbourne) is doubled to half-hourly.

Silverhill

  • Route 20 (Ore Down Farm-Clive Vale-Old Town-Hastings town centre-St Leonard’s-Silverhill-Hollington-Mayfield Farm) - New Sunday evening journeys.
  • Route 21(Malvern Way-Downs Road-Hastings town centre-St Leonard’s-The Green-Silverhill-Harrow Lane-Conquest Hospital) - New later Monday to Saturday evening journey from Conquest Hospital, plus early and later journeys on Sundays.
  • Route 22 (Ore Rye Road- Priory Road-Hastings town centre-St Leonard’s-Silverhill-Stonehouse Drive-Hollington) - New Sunday evening journeys.
  • New route 1066 replacing route 304/305 (Hastings-Bohemia Road-Silverhill-Battle Road-Battle-Robertsbridge-Hurst Green-Hawkhurst-Wadhurst-Tunbridge Wells) includes new 2 hourly Sunday service.
  • Improved Monday to Saturday evening service on routes 100, 101 (Conquest Hospital-Bohemia Road-Hastings Town Centre-Old Town-Ore-Rye). Plus on Sundays, service 99 (Silverhill-Hastings town centre-Bexhill-Eastbourne) increased to half-hourly.
  • Route 101 (Conquest Hospital–Hastings-Ore-Fairlight-Rye) - From 3 September the Monday to Saturday daytime journeys will no longer run between Conquest Hospital and Hastings Station. No change to the Monday to Saturday evening and Sunday journeys, apart from being re-routed via Harrow Lane instead of Sedlescombe Road North.

Battle Road

  • New route 1066 replacing route 304/305 (Hastings-Bohemia Road-Silverhill-Battle Road-Battle-Robertsbridge-Hurst Green-Hawkhurst-Wadhurst-Tunbridge Wells) includes new 2 hourly Sunday service.
  • Route 101 (Conquest Hospital–Hastings-Ore-Fairlight-Rye) - From 3 September the Monday to Saturday daytime journeys will no longer run between Conquest Hospital and Hastings Station. No change to the Monday to Saturday evening and Sunday journeys, apart from being re-routed via Harrow Lane instead of Sedlescombe Road North.

Harrow Lane, Sedlescombe Road North – A later journey on both route 21 and route 101 from the Conquest Hospital on Monday to Saturday evenings, plus early and later journeys on route 21 on From 3 September the route 101 Monday to Saturday daytime journeys will no longer run between Conquest Hospital, Sedlescombe Road North and Hastings Station. From this date the route 101 Monday to Saturday evening and Sunday journeys will be re-routed via Harrow Lane instead of Sedlescombe Road North (route 349 will continue to serve Sedlescombe Road North).

Hastings longer distance services from town centre

  • Route 29 (Hastings town centre-Conquest Hospital-Westfield-Northiam) - new later Monday to Saturday evening journeys to/from Northiam, plus new Sunday service also extending to Tenterden.
  • Route 98 (Hastings-Bexhill-Sidley-Ninfield-Hailsham-Polegate-Eastbourne) – Hastings to Bexhill town centre section of route improved to every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime. New hourly Monday to Saturday evening service between Hastings and Sidley with certain journeys extending to/from Hailsham and Eastbourne, plus new earlier Sunday journeys between Hastings and Sidley.
  • Route 99 (Hastings-Bexhill-Pevensey Bay-Eastbourne) – Frequency doubled to half-hourly on Sundays.
  • Route 100 (Rye-Winchelsea-Icklesham-Hastings) – improved Monday to Saturday evening service. Extended to Camber from 3 September.
  • Route 101 (Rye-Winchelsea Beach-Pett Level-Fairlight-Hastings) - improved Monday to Saturday evening service. Monday to Saturday daytime route no longer serves Conquest Hospital (from 3 September).
  • New route 1066, replacing route 304/305 (Hastings-Bohemia Road-Silverhill-Battle Road-Battle-Robertsbridge-Hurst Green-Hawkhurst-Wadhurst-Tunbridge Wells), includes new 2 hourly Sunday service

New Sunday evening journeys introduced. In common with the arrangements on other evenings during the week, at the Hollington end, these journeys will run to Mayfield Farm and start from Tesco. New Sunday evening service from Mayfield Farm will be provided by service 22 (see below).

Malvern Way-Downs Road-Hastings town centre-                   St Leonards-The Green-Silverhill-Conquest Hospital

One later Monday to Saturday evening journey, from Conquest Hospital to Malvern Way and a later journey Malvern Way to Silverhill.

New early Sunday morning journeys between Hastings Rail Station and Conquest Hospital plus Sunday mid-evening journeys.

These changes will assist Conquest Hospital staff working shifts.

Ore-Hastings town centre-        St Leonards-Silverhill-Stonehouse Drive-Hollington

The Monday to Saturday evening route 22C journeys which serve Harley Shute are withdrawn with replacement facilities for Harley Shute provided by new extended route 31 (see below).

New Sunday evening journeys introduced on route 22 over full route with the journeys currently run as service 22C between Hastings Station and Hollington withdrawn. Sunday evening journeys towards Ore will start from Mayfield Farm as they do on Monday – Saturday evenings.

From 3 September there are changes to a return journey at Hollington on schooldays during the afternoon peak. One journey will run to Harley Shute as 22C instead of the usual 22. From Hollington one journey will start at Harley Shute and will run as route 22B, replacing the PM route 23B and on the same line of route as the 23B to Silverhill.

Earlier Monday to Friday journeys between Hastings town centre and Conquest Hospital.

New Sunday daytime 2 hourly service between Hastings town centre and Conquest Hospital.

New extended route 31 (see below) along with route 23 will provide an improved service between Harley Shute, Filsham Valley, West St Leonards and Hastings town centre.

New Monday to Saturday evening journeys between Northiam and Hastings.                                                       New 2 hourly Sunday daytime service between Hastings and Tenterden.

From 14 August the Monday to Friday only 05:53 journey from Silverhill to Tenterden is withdrawn. From the same date the 08:55 Tenterden to Hastings journey will be revised to run 10 minutes later.

Route 23 will continue to serve Harley Shute, so with extended route 31 doubling the Monday to Saturday daytime frequency between Hastings town centre, West St Leonards and Harley Shute.

New Monday to Saturday evening journeys.

From 3 September the service is revised on Mondays to Saturdays, with the daytime journeys no longer serving Conquest Hospital, Sedlescombe Road North, Silverhill and Battle Road. The newly introduced Monday to Saturday evening journey from Conquest Hospital will continue to run, departing the hospital at 20:45, though routed via Harrow Lane instead of Sedlescombe Road North.

A revised timetable will also be introduced from 3 September, including changes to provide for the revised school session times at Rye College.

Service 101 journeys on Sundays will continue to serve Conquest Hospital, though from 3 September routed via Harrow Lane instead of Sedlescombe Road North. Service 349 provides an alternative service for Sedlescombe Road North.

The Monday to Saturday service is operated commercially by Stagecoach with the Sunday service funded by ESCC.
