Newton Room

Southover Grange

Home to Lewes Register Office, the beautiful Southover Grange is a magnificent 16th-century manor house set within the picturesque Southover Grange gardens. This Grade II* listed building is full of history, character, and charm, and provides an elegant setting for any celebration. You can choose from four beautiful ceremony rooms which can accommodate ceremonies from 2 to 58 guests. 

Room capacities include everyone except the registrars, the couple, all guests including witnesses, children and babies, photographers, videographers and musicians. The capacities are determined by fire regulations and cannot be exceeded. 

There are no changing facilities at the register office, you and your guests should arrive dressed and ready for the ceremony. 

Ceremony rooms

Winterbourne Suite

Capacity: 15 (couple plus 13)

A charming and intimate room ideal for smaller celebrations. Decorated in a serene blue and silver palette, this beautiful room features a window with views over the gardens. 

Located on the first floor without lift access, this room is not suitable for those who have difficulty with stairs. If you or any of your guests have accessibility needs, please consider this when choosing the Winterbourne Suite. 

Evelyn Room

Capacity: 20 (couple plus 18)

Located on the ground floor this bright and airy room offers lovely garden views and a neutral décor that will compliment any style. Guest seating is provided with two luxurious sofas, six individual chairs and a window seat. 

Ainsworth Room

Capacity: 60 (couple plus 58)

Also on the ground floor, the Ainsworth Room mirrors the elegant décor of the Evelyn Room, making it perfect for larger celebrations. Featuring a central aisle, two chandeliers, and large windows overlooking the terrace and gardens. 

Newton Room

Capacity: 60 (couple plus 58)

The Newton Room, a bright and inviting room on the ground floor. It features an aisle that leads to a beautifully carved wooden fireplace. Rich red and gold cushioned chairs provide seating for up to 58 guests. 

Fees

Ceremony fees include hire of the ceremony room, your registrars, two legal certificates and one commemorative certificate. 

Parking

There is no dedicated parking at the register office. Paid parking is available at the school car park directly opposite Southover Grange, on the nearby streets, or at Lewes station, which is a 10 minute walk away. 

Southover Grange gardens

The public gardens at Southover Grange are managed by Lewes District Council (LDC). Please be aware that dogs and alcohol are not permitted in the gardens. For any questions about using the gardens or their regulations, please contact Lewes District Council directly.
