We are seeking to recruit an experienced individual to lead and manage the Medical Centre to ensure that the pupils, staff and visitors to the College are provided with an efficient, safe and effective medical care and first aid service. They will be responsible for leading an engaged, high quality, efficient and high performing team to ensure the efficient and smooth running of the Centre.

Principal Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with the Deputy Head Pastoral and leaders across college on planning for all aspects of the Medical Centre, formulating objectives and developing ideas for future improvements.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the Medical Centre team against agreed objectives and KPIs; identify and manage change project plans.
  • Develop and maintain proactive, strong and effective communication both within the Medical Centre and across College with the DSL and HoMs.
  • Lead the relationship with the School’s GP Practice and other external suppliers.
  • Lead Medical Centre meetings, organise agendas, following up actions and decisions and communicating more widely as appropriate.
  • Ensure all staff have the appropriate qualifications and training.

Management

  • Manage the Medical Centre budget, ensuring the procurement of equipment, medication, supplies and services within budget and seeking to improve service and reduce costs.
  • Manage the recruitment, deployment, engagement, development and performance of the staff.
  • Monitor and manage the skill mix and deployment of staff.
  • Manage staffing levels within target budgets.
  • Developing, implementing and embedding staff engagement and communications.
  • Oversee the running of the Medical Centre ensuring that structures, systems and rotas are effective in meeting the needs of the patients and that efficient cover is provided for staff absences.
  • Lead and review Medical Centre protocols, policies, procedures and standard operating procedures, ensuring legislative compliance, adherence to National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools and best practice.
  • Arrange appropriate maintenance for Medical Centre equipment.
  • Managing any complaints and significant events effectively.
  • The proactive management of health matters across the College, keeping students, staff and parents informed of current medical issues and concerns.
  • Ensuring that Health Education is promoted throughout the College.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of confidentiality at all times.

Patient Services

  • Adopt a strategic approach to the development and management of patient services.
  • Monitor, manage and assess Medical Centre performance against pupil access and demand management KPIs. Identifying and managing changes to systems, processes and workflows.
  • Manage patient records: overseeing Care Plans, hospital correspondence, sporting fixture injuries, immunization records, food allergies, auto-injectors etc.
  • Manage the arrangements for GPs surgeries, registration of weekly boarders, associated appointments, ordering repeat prescriptions etc.
  • Oversee the administration of the NHS childhood Immunisation sessions in School, including monitoring consent forms from parents, liaising with the NHS Schools’ Immunisation Team, notifying House staff and uploading vaccination records.

Systems Development

  • Evaluate and continuously improve Medical Centre systems and processes.
  • Fully utilise and develop all available IT systems, overseeing IT training for staff.
  • Set monitoring standards for data entry and collection in line with GDPR.

The appointment will be confirmed following six months’ satisfactory probationary period.

The post is 40 hours per week – term time only plus 4 weeks. Flexibility is required in line with needs.

£35,650 p.a. (£40k FTE). Salaries are reviewed annually.
