TEACHER OF HISTORY

Full time / Full year / permanent

MPS-UPS £28,000 – £43,685 per annum

TLR for the right candidate

Start date September 2023

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed teacher of History to join a successful department and faculty.  This is a perfect career opportunity to join a high performing school with a commitment to career development which would be very suitable for an ambitious teacher at the start of their career as well as a more experienced candidate.

The successful candidate will be someone who is dedicated, enthusiastic and able to plan and deliver inspiring and exciting learning experiences for our KS3 and KS4 students.  Our goal is to equip all our young people with the knowledge, tools and literary understanding to broaden their own horizons, encouraging them to question and explore the world for themselves.

The History department aims to provide an interesting and challenging curriculum at both Key Stage 3 and GCSE.  A wide range of teaching strategies are employed to ensure students are engaged in their learning, including drama, role play, discussion, extended writing, ICT and audio visual experience.  The development of both students’ skills and knowledge are treated with equal weighting and we aim to ensure students of all abilities are encouraged to develop a passion and interest in the subject.

The successful candidate will be joining a supportive and experienced History department.  The department is well resourced and housed in good accommodation with audio/visual facilities available, including Interactive White Boards in each classroom.

This position would suit either an experienced teacher of History or provide an excellent first post for a hardworking and ambitious teacher who feels he/she has a lot to offer and a lot to learn.  Our NQT support programme and induction is a strong feature of the school’s commitment to professional development.  The successful candidate would be expected to deliver high quality lessons at Key Stage 3 and, for the right candidate, for the AQA History GCSE (America 1920-1973, Conflict and Tension in Asia 1950-1975, Normans 1066-1100 and Power and the People 1170-Present day)

We are committed to organising and delivering an exciting curriculum and range of extra-curricular activities for all year groups, and we are always keen to embrace fresh ideas from new staff.  We are strong advocates of learning outside the classroom and aim for every student in all year groups to be offered the opportunity of a field trip experience.  The successful candidate will be able to support the department’s contribution to the provision of wider curriculum opportunities for all students, through enrichment activities and other external and virtual opportunities, helping to maximise the learning experiences for all.

Willingdon Community School is committed to child protection/safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, we expect all staff and volunteers to share this duty of care.  All applicants will be subject to safer recruitment procedures and will require satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check.

Closing Date: Tuesday, 28 March 2023 (by noon)

Interview details will be sent to shortlisted candidates only.
