|
Practical Skills
|
This introductory briefing is part of the council’s offer for Neurodiversity Week 2023. The workshop will be a fun, informative and interactive introduction to neurodiversity in the workplace and will look at what neurodiversity is and isn’t, what is means to be a neurominority, strengths of neurodiverse people, and how best to embrace and support neurodiversity in the workplace. We will focus on autism, ADHD and dyslexia, though there are, of course, other neurodiverse conditions.
We will be using an external website called www.menti.com a few times. I will ask you to go to this website and enter a code I will give you, to complete a simple task, such as entering three words for a live word cloud. I will support you with this if you need any help.
For a more detailed exploration of this topic, try the ‘Neurodiversity At Work Awareness’ course, which offers practical strategies for the workplace.

- What causes ‘neurodiversity’?
- Workplace implications - strengths, struggles, how to make reasonable adjustments

This course aims to provide a general overview and build a basic awareness.
|
By the end of the course participants should gain a thorough overview of the neurodiverse profile and the implications of this for workplace performance. You’ll also gain some practical ideas for making sure the work environment suits a diverse range of employees, and how to organise tasks so that people can work at their best.

Our minds are geared to work efficiently; constantly using expedient short-cuts that enable us to make quick decisions and responses.
Whilst we cannot ever penetrate the nuts and bolts of our mental machinery, we can recognise that these short-cuts can sometimes cloud our judgement.
At worst, our biases perpetuate ageism, racism, sexism and numerous other forms of covert or overt discrimination and persecution.
This one-day course invites participants to query their own perceptions and perspectives and examine the impact on their relationships and working practises.
The trainer is an experienced psychotherapist, debriefer and coach.
Due to the participatory nature of the course, the maximum number of participants is 10 and a degree of openness and readiness to participate in the programme is required.

At East Sussex Council, you work with the public, clients, suppliers and colleagues.
You give them the best services and information possible.
But sometimes, people do the wrong things and consequently there are occasional conflicts that need to be managed.
Many people don’t like handling conflict, because they don’t know how to do it.
We know that mismanaged conflict can be very costly.
Conflict situations need to be handled properly.
So, how can we best resolve conflicts; quickly, easily, and without too much negative emotion?
|
You will benefit from this course if:
- You have to handle strong, confident characters that you find difficult
- You sometimes “come on too strong” and thus make a bad situation, worse
- You sometimes evade and delay handling conflict in an attempt to “keep the peace”
- You believe that conflict can sometimes be based on miscommunication
- You think that if you say nothing the situation will resolve itself
- You wait and wait and wait....and then explode
- You are not sure when it is right and when it is NOT right, to compromise
If any of the above descriptions fit you, then you should attend this course
|
Rational conflict training
- We have designed this Rational conflict resolution training to teach correct conflict management principles.
- We will show you how to correctly manage any conflict situation.
- This training shows people how to deal with conflicts in a clear, rational, assertive, and professional manner.

Today retirement is more of a process rather than an event and this seminar provides a range of information and guidance for those who are approaching this time in their lives.
Your workplace might well be looking a little different at the moment, but there are still some things that stay very much the same.
Retirement, or early retirement, will be one of the biggest lifestyle changes, both financially and culturally, that we face; and planning ahead for this change will certainly help to make the transition easier, and indeed make this part of life something special to look forward to.
East Sussex County Council are working with Close Brothers to provide this valuable support if you are approaching this next chapter of life; whether that is in a few years, or perhaps even in just a few months, we would like to offer you access to a valuable set of tools within the new virtual retirement service, that will help you to think about and prepare for your future retirement.
You will have an opportunity to explore issues and discuss the range of opportunities available to you within a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
As a part of the booking, you will also be given access to an online virtual retirement hub full of information and downloadable resources, which you will be able to access at your own convenience.
