Subject Budget Monitoring for ESCC Budget Managers
Course description This course is available to all people with a role managing service budgets or capital projects. The course will cover the ESCC budget monitoring process and will demonstrate the different ways to forecast expenditure and income.
Training objectives The aim of the course is to contribute to sound financial management across the organisation, giving East Sussex County Council staff an understanding of the key principles of budget monitoring, and the necessary skills to forecast against budget effectively.
Learning outcomes To understand the reasons why budget management is important. To be able to forecast annual expenditure and income and to be able to explain variances to the budget with meaningful commentary.
Additional information This interactive course will use revenue budget management techniques although in most cases these techniques are  also relevant for monitoring capital projects.

Course description The in person, full day version of this course explores the skills needed to manage and chair meetings in general. While focused on managing the interactions between attendees in person, it will also cover some of the different challenges we face with online meetings, where all of the attendees are on a screen, and hybrid scenarios that combine both approaches.
Training objectives The course covers: • The value of meetings: Deciding when to have a meeting and considering alternatives
• Meeting basics: Who should attend, preparing your agenda and options for administrative support.
• The meeting environment: The physical considerations of a meeting room versus the technical and practical considerations of online meetings from home.
• Managing your meeting: How to actually chair a meeting, including setting the tone, considering ground rules and managing the agenda
• Collaboration tools: Whiteboards, laptops and projectors in a meeting room; Features and collaboration tools you can use in your online platform. We’ll include some discussion on how these impact the feeling of the meeting for attendees.
