Target audience All ASCH Staff
Subject Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Workshop description The landscape of our workforce is changing as we are living longer. In 2022 the number of people in the workforce aged 50 to State Pension age rose to 13.8 million and the number aged 16-49 will have reduced by 700,000. We know that as of October 2022, nearly 500 of our ASC workforce were over 55 years old and we want to support you to stay with us for longer. As part of the ASC Workforce Programme, this project is all about retention and valuing the experience you bring.
Workshop objectives These workshops are a chance for us to:
  • increase our understanding of the issues staff face
  • identify what might be worrying you about current roles and responsibilities
  • understand why you stay with us
  • consider what might help you to stay in ASC if you are considering your future
  • identify what you would like to do but don’t feel able to
  • ascertain what attracts new older staff to ASC
  • recognise the value older staff bring
  • Explore a range of issues with staff relating to age and stage and include relevant health checks
  • collate a menu of available options that meets the needs of the service and reflects the views of this workforce. For example, these workers could provide leadership and mentoring to younger generations
  • offer 1-1 coaching

Course details
Contact Adult Social Care Training
Target audience ESCC Assessment & Care Management ESCC Directly Provided Services
Subject Equalities diversity & inclusion
Course description The workshop builds on the notion of Allyship and aims to support people with supervisory roles to embed an equalities focus to their supervision by openly discussing and addressing issues relating to race, racism, power, privilege, and inequality, thus helping to promote a safe, courageous, and inclusive team culture.
Training objectives To share concepts and tools to support open dialogue in supervision around racial microaggressions, and other forms of inequalities that arise in work. To focus on building positive, respectful and trusting relationships within the team and between supervisor and supervisee. To highlight the importance of the role of supervisor or manager in embedding equalities focus in the work of the team.
Learning outcomes Attendees will have the opportunity to:  Gain an in-depth understanding of the Critical Conversation model and its role in supervision.  Practice implementing elements of the Critical Conversation model through use of case scenarios that reflect a supervisor’s role.  Reflect on their own social location and level of confidence and skill in this area of their practice.
Additional information Attendees who have current and ongoing supervisory roles (i.e. provide 1 to 1 or group supervision) will benefit most from this workshop.  Whilst it might be helpful, it is not necessary for attendees to have previously attended the Eggshells to Allyship: Creating a safe, courageous, inclusive organisational culture workshop.
