Course description | A highly interactive course drawing directly on the lived experience of the trainer rather than theory. Although the course covers the law, it focuses more on the often overlooked emotional side of disability - vital in making disabled people feel motivated and valued. Discussions take place in a safe, constructive environment. |
Training objectives | The training objectives of this course it to: * provide awareness of how to support the emotional and practical needs of disabled employees and customers. * describe and discuss best practice on recruiting and retaining disabled employees. * provide an overview of legal considerations including reasonable adjustments. * outline the benefits of disability awareness for employers and society as a whole. |
Learning outcomes | Ability to interact with disabled people with greater confidence and empathy. Working knowledge of the Equality Act 201.0 Ability to help achieve an inclusive working environment where issues are raised constructively and resolved quickly. Enhanced understanding of issues faced by disabled people through account of lived experience and practical exercises. |
Additional information | Course is CPD accredited. No prerequisite learning needed. It is appropriate for people at all levels of the organisation as messages are largely generic. Accordingly the content is helpful to managers and peers alike. Handouts summarising key learning points are provided at completion of the course. |
