Local Nature Recovery Strategy

East Sussex County Council is the Responsible Authority for the preparation and publication of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy for East Sussex and Brighton & Hove, and we will continue to play a key role in helping to coordinate delivery. As for the preparation of the Strategy, in doing this we will work closely with West Sussex County Council as our neighbouring Responsible Authority.
Local Nature Recovery Strategies are a new legal requirement arising from the Environment Act 2021. They are spatial strategies covering the whole of England, intended to drive more coordinated, practical and focused action on nature recovery. They will support the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain and provide a focus for the strengthened duty on all public authorities to conserve and enhance biodiversity.
The Strategy is a material consideration in planning, with local planning authorities being required to have regard to the Strategy when making decisions related to local plans and planning applications.
