Apply to become a local authority governor

Each local authority (LA) maintained school has one LA Governor, nominated by the local authority.

The LA panel consider applications monthly. They look for skills, experience and ability to contribute.

Applications are assessed against the following documents:

First-time applicants

Re-appointments

LA governors who have completed their term of office and want to re-apply or applicants with substantial governor experience should use the Authority Governor re-application form. They must provide evidence of previous:

  • attendance at meetings
  • proactive approach to development opportunities and;
  • involvement in the work of the governing board.
