Child performance licensing and chaperones latest
1. Overview
Application
Please note: The process can take from 8 to 12 weeks, especially during our busy periods, so please make sure you apply in time.
Renewal and Application are the same.
Complete the steps below to apply or renew your licence at least 3 months before it expires. There is a charge to renew:
- £10 for a volunteer chaperone + £25 for the NSPCC's Chaperone Training course
- £10 for a Professional chaperone + £25 for the NSPCC's Chaperone Training course + £49.50 for the DBS Fee.
(A volunteer offers their service for free (apart from expenses), so their Enhanced DBS check is free. The Professional gets paid for their service, so the Enhanced DBS will cost £49.50.
It is illegal to use your free DBS certificate to earn any form of income.
Online training

Process
Once we get your Chaperone Application form and your NSPCC Training certificate, we will check your application and get in touch with you. We will help you with the next steps, like sending you a link to pay your fee online and another link to start your Enhanced DBS check online. You will need to bring three ID documents to show us in person.
Please contact our office after you have chosen your three ID documents from the DBS list, so you can make an appointment to show them at one of our offices:
- St Mary's House - 52 St Leonard's Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex BN21 3UU
- County Hall - St Anne's Crescent, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1UE
- Cavendish House - Breeds Place, Hastings, East Sussex TN34 3AA
Please remember: Even if you already had a DBS check before, you must fill out a new DBS form for the chaperone job, unless you are using the government online DBS update service.
If you use the online DBS Update Service, you need to:

- give us permission to check your update online
