Processing DBS checks for businesses, self-employed and personal assistants

Only organisations that are registered with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) can apply directly for disclosures for prospective employees. East Sussex County Council is registered with the DBS, as an ‘umbrella body’, which means we can process DBS checks on behalf of organisations, as well as self-employed individuals and Personal Assistants who are unable to apply directly.

Our service for Businesses

We will:

  • provide ongoing access to the ESCC DBS on-line application platform for you to process your application requirements using Digital ID where possible
  • check and validate the information the applicant gives on the DBS application form
  • countersign application forms to confirm that you are entitled to access criminal record information
  • provide you with regular updates on changes to the DBS process.

Our service for self-employed people and personal assistants

We will:

  • provide a link to an on-line application making use of Digital ID
  • check and validate the information provided on the DBS application form
  • countersign your application form to confirm that you are entitled to access criminal record information

How to apply

Self-employed and PA’s that wish to use this service must comply with the DBS Code of Practice and our own terms and conditions. ESCC DBS team require payment in advance, via our online portal, plus full details of your DBS requirements. Once your form has been reviewed, we will send a payment link and details of how to proceed.
