Scrutiny committees

The four County Council scrutiny committees are made up of councillors from different political parties and co-opted members from outside the council. Each committee meets four times a year.

In addition, the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee includes members from other organisations.

Adult Social Care and Community Safety Scrutiny Committee
Scrutinises care services for residents over 16, including residential care and sensory care services. Also looks at community safety.

Audit, Best Value and Community Services Scrutiny Committee
Scrutinises budgeting, audit, finances, information technology and e-government, public health, libraries and archives, registrars and the voluntary sector. It also manages the best value review programme.

Children’s Services Scrutiny Committee
Scrutinises social care for people under 16, state education and other childcare services.

Economy, Transport and Environment Scrutiny Committee
Scrutinises road maintenance, public transport, management of the local environment and trading standards.

Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee (HOSC)
Looks at the work of the clinical commissioning groups, National Health Service (NHS) trusts and the local area team of NHS England.
