1. Carer support services

There are a range of services available for carers in East Sussex.

If you’re unsure what type of support you need then contact Care for the Carers – the carer’s centre for East Sussex. They offer information, advice and support and can act as the first point of contact for all services.

An independent charity which works with unpaid carers of all ages.

Alzheimer’s Society – Carer Information and Support Programme (CrISP)

If you are a carer, family member or friend of someone who has been recently diagnosed with dementia, CriSP can give you the support and advice you need. Office opening times: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

The Association of Carers

An independent local charity which provides free, high-quality volunteer-led services to carers.

British Red Cross – Home from Hospital and Carers Crisis Response Service

Free, short-term practical and emotional support for carers to allow them to have a short break from their caring role or to support them in times of crisis.

Coastal Wellbeing – Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP)

Coastal Wellbeing offers Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) groups to carers who might feel isolated, frustrated, guilty, misunderstood, overwhelmed or alone.

East Sussex Family & Carers’ Team (FACT)

FACT supports people who are affected by someone else’s substance misuse and mental health problems. They offer advice and signposting, drop-ins, support groups, one-to-one sessions, workshops and training for carers.

Headway East Sussex

Headway East Sussex is a registered charity which supports anyone affected by a brain injury including stroke.

Making Memories Dementia Carers Groups

Unpaid carers of people with dementia/Alzheimer’s and the person they care for are invited to join Care for the Carers for monthly, free entertainment and support at these groups.

Available in Bexhill, Hailsham and Seaford.

Regular meetings for carers of people with mental health issues.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association

Support, information and advice if you are caring for someone with motor neurone disease.

STAR – East Sussex Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service

STAR offers free advice, information, counselling and support groups for anyone affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use.

Sussex Armed Forces Network – Carers and Families Liaison

A group of organisations which work together to improve the lives of the armed forces community. SAFN has a dedicated carers and families liaison worker whose work focuses on support and recognition for carers and families from the armed and ex-armed forces community.

Carers Direct

Carers Direct is a free and confidential phone and online service, offering information and advice for carers.

Lines are open

  • Monday to Friday (except bank holidays) 9am to 8pm
  • Weekends 11am to 4pm

Carers UK is a national charity providing information and advice to carers and the professionals who support carers.
