The benefit cap

The benefit cap limits the amount of certain benefits most people aged between 16 and 64 can get. In East Sussex the amount is limited to:

  • £20,000 a year (£384.62 a week) for couples (with or without children) and lone parents
  • £13,400 a year (£257.69 a week) for single people without children.

The benefit cap does not apply to everyone, nor all benefits. It does not apply to older people. Further information can be found on the GOV.UK website.
