Booking your booster jab

People aged 50 years and older, residents in care homes for older people, those aged 5 years and over in a clinical risk group, people who care for vulnerable individuals, families of people with weakened immune systems and health and social care staff will be offered an autumn booster as part of the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

NHS England has said care home residents and people who are housebound will be among the first to be vaccinated as the booster programme begins from 05 September 2022.

The national booking service also opens week beginning 05 September, ahead of the wider ‘rollout’ due to start on 12 September, with the NHS inviting those most susceptible to serious illness from COVID-19 and those aged 75 and over to book an appointment from that week.

Third dose of COVID-19 vaccine for severely immunosuppressed people

A third dose of vaccine is being offered to people over 12 who were severely immunosuppressed at the time of their first or second dose. It is separate from any potential booster vaccination: a third dose as part of the primary vaccination course.

Free transport to get to your vaccination

Sussex residents who have no means to get to their COVID-19 vaccination appointment can book a free return journey to help them attend.

Please book your vaccination appointment or have confirmed plans to attend a walk-in session first, then call 01444 275 008. The booking service is available between 10am and 1pm and 2pm and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Mandatory vaccination of care home staff

Regulations revoking COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of deployment in Care Quality Commission registered care homes came into force on 15 March 2022.

People working or volunteering in care homes are no longer required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter the premises.

The legal requirement for health and social care staff to be double jabbed from 1 April 2022 was also removed.

The minority of health and care workers who remain unvaccinated are reminded of their professional responsibility to be vaccinated to protect themselves and others.
