Disability related expenditure (DRE) policy and procedures

This policy explains how we calculate and assess disability related expenses. These are extra costs that you have due to your disability or needs that are not being met by the council.

Disability related expenditure (DRE) is excluded from your available income when we work out how much you can afford to pay towards your care.

We apply a standard allowance for DRE based on the rate of disability benefit you receive. If you have expenses which are higher than this, you can ask for a full DRE assessment.
