Concessionary bus pass times from 8 March 2021

English National Concessionary bus pass times are back to the standard scheme times. This is becuase schools have reopened buses before 9.30 am are expected to be busy again carrying students and those who need to travel to work. Residents must follow national Stay at Home rules.

Information for people who cannot wear a face covering

Some people don’t have to wear a face covering for health, age or equality reasons.

To help you quickly explain this to the driver many local bus operators can provide you with an “Assistance Card”, which you can show when boarding. Please visit our Bus travel with a disability page for details on these schemes locally.

Temporary bus service changes 30 March 2021

Including information on schooldays services and other bus service updates to Brighton & Hove route 13X, Compass Travel 166/167/168, Metrobus 271/272 and Seaford and District 149. Bus services are affected by Government announcements on Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Full schooldays services are now operating. These include individual journeys temporarily restricted to school/college students only and the extra school/college buses which commenced in September. Please try to avoid busy bus journeys used by keyworkers and students who still need to travel to school or college.

If you can wear a face covering then you must do so when travelling by bus. Some people may be exempt from wearing a face cover.

Arriva

  • 286 – Re-starts from 8 March. Available to school/college students only.

Autocar

  • 256 – From 8 March 0750 from Lamberhurst will again be for students only, with two buses operating on this journey. The 1600 from Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School also has an additional bus for students only. Other journeys are running to their normal Monday to Friday timetable
  • 293/299 – Normal service.
  • 354 (Ticehurst-Wadhurst rail link) – Special timetable to connect with amended Wadhurst train times. The morning journey departs 0705 from Ticehurst (Steelands), arrive Wadhurst Station 0720 to connect with 0729 train to London. Return buses to Wadhurst and Ticehurst runs at 1855 from Wadhurst Station (connecting with 1849 arrival from London) and 1925 from Wadhurst Station (connecting with 1919 arrival from London).

Battle Area Community Transport

BACT are preparing to restart most services. There will no longer be a requirement to book seating. Services B70-B80 remain suspended.

  • B67 - expected to restart on Tuesdays from 30 March.
  • B71 - expected to restart on Tuesdays from 30 March.
  • B72 - expected to restart on Mondays from 29 March (no service on Easter Monday 5 April).
  • B73 – expected to restart on Tuesdays from 30 March.

Brighton & Hove Buses

Routes 11X, N12 and N29 are not running on any days. Special timetables on other services in East Sussex as follows:

  • 12/12A – Normal service with some minor changes.
  • 12X – 20 minute frequency, Mondays to Saturdays.
  • 13X – Sunday service only until 1 April, with three journeys in each direction. These depart Brighton Station at 0910, 1240 and 1610, and Eastbourne Cornfield Road at 1102, 1432 and 1632. From 2 April the service is increased to run every 30 minutes on Sundays and public holidays.
  • 14/14A/14C – 20 minute frequency, Mondays to Saturdays. A normal timetable operates on Sundays.
  • 28/29 - Revised temporary Monday to Saturday timetable, similar to service provided in December. Monday to Saturday daytime service between Brighton and Lewes town centre generally every 10 minutes; Lewes Church Lane every 15 minutes; Ringmer every 30 minutes; Uckfield every 30 minutes; Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells generally twice an hour at weekday peak times and every hour off-peak and Saturdays. The following journeys on schooldays are for students only: 0655 Uckfield to Tunbridge Wells (additional bus), 0750 Tunbridge Wells to Lewes, 0757 Lewes to Ringmer, 1532 Ringmer to Brighton. Sunday service generally twice an hour between Brighton and Uckfield, with one of these buses an hour serving Ringmer and the other bus an hour serving Isfield. Hourly service to/from Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells.
  • 76A – Available to school/college students only.
  • 79 – Revised temporary timetable, operating on Saturdays and Sundays only.
  • 92 – Normal service.
  • 492/494 – Available to school/college students only.

Compass Travel

  • 31,31A,31C – Full schooldays service. Extra student-only buses are running to both Warden Park School and Uckfield (for Uckfield College).
  • 119 – On schooldays the morning 0809 journey from Alfriston, and the afternoon 1502 journey from Seaford Head School (to Alfriston), are for students only.
  • 120 – Normal Saturday afternoon timetable is in operation. Cuckmere Buses is now running its morning and afternoon service on Tuesdays and Thursdays plus its Saturday morning service (see Cuckmere Buses section).
  • 121 – Full schooldays service. Additional buses for students only: 0745 Uckfield Bus Station to Chailey School via Newick and North Chailey; 1517 Chailey School to North Chailey, Newick and Uckfield. The 0806 from Lewes High Street to Chailey School, and the 1520 from Chailey School to Lewes, will both be for students only. Normal service on Saturdays.
  • 122 – Normal service.
  • 123 – Revised service on schooldays: The 0655 from Saltdean and 0740 from Newhaven will be for students only. A journey, available to all users, will depart from Newhaven Lower Place at 0718, arriving Lewes Bus Station 0748. The schooldays only departure at 1517 does not operate with instead a journey for students only from Priory School to Rodmell, Piddinghoe and Newhaven, along with an extra bus for students only to Kingston. Normal service on Saturdays.
  • 125 –Monday to Friday daytime service between Lewes and Eastbourne restored. The 0755 from Alfriston is for students only and only runs on King’s Academy schooldays. The 1515 schooldays only journey from Lewes Bus Station is withdrawn, with instead a journey for students only at 1530 from King’s Academy to Alfriston.
  • 126– Normal service on Compass Travel journeys. See the Cuckmere Buses section for news of their route 126 journeys, and Compass Travel service 119 (above) for journeys between Seaford and Alfriston.
  • 127– Schooldays timetable. Normal service on Saturdays.
  • 128, 129 – On Mondays to Fridays, the 129 journey at 1502 from Lewes Bus Station on schooldays is replaced by a 128 journey at 1430, running to Nevill only. The 1502 journey will run on non-schooldays. Normal service on Saturdays.
  • 143 – Normal service, apart from the 1405 journey from Hailsham will not serve Harrisons Lane and Springett Avenue in Ringmer, or Church Lane and Tesco in Lewes.
  • 145 – Normal service.
  • 166 – On schooldays the 0811 from Haywards Heath Perrymount Road to Warden Park School is for students only. An additional bus numbered 33, for students only, runs at 0749 from Wivelsfield Ote Hall Chapel to Warden Park School, returning from school at 1528. The 166 1535 departure from Warden Park School is for students to Perrymount Road.

    Please check Compass Travel website for changes from Tuesday 6 April, due to the expected 3 months closure of the B2112 in the Fox Hill area for South East Water works. During this closure period service 166 will divert between Wivelsfield Green and Haywards Heath via St George’s Retreat, Janes Lane and Rocky Lane. Due to the length of the diversion, times between Wivelsfield Green and Haywards Heath will be revised and services will terminate at Perrymount Road and are unable to serve Sainsbury’s. Service 166 school buses to and from Warden Park Academy will operate directly between Haywards Heath South Road and the school.

    Between Tuesday 6 April and Friday 23 April Ditchling Road at Offham will closed for road repairs. During this time services 166 and 167 will be diverted. The 166 will run via South Chailey between Offham and Plumpton, turning at Plumpton Station then continuing to Haywards Heath or Lewes. Plumpton Half Moon and Plumpton College will not be served by the 166 between these dates.

  • 167– On schooldays the 0820 from Burgess Hill to Wivelsfield Primary School is for students only, along with the return journey at 1522 from school. From Tuesday 6 April the 0730 service 168 journey from Wivelsfield Green to Burgess Hill, via Plumpton and Keymer, will be replaced by a revised 168 journey. This new journey will start from Plumpton Half Moon at 0725 and run to Burgess Hill via Plumpton Green, Wivelsfield Green, St George’s Retreat and Folders Lane. Also between Tuesday 6 April and Friday 23 April Ditchling Road at Offham will closed for road repairs. During this time services 166 and 167 will be diverted – please check Compass Travel website for changes.
  • 168 – From Tuesday 6 April the 0730 journey from Wivelsfield Green to Burgess Hill, via Plumpton and Keymer, will be replaced by a new 167 journey (see above).
  • 228/229 – On schooldays the 0722 228 journey from Crowborough, including the Jarvis Brook loop, will have an additional bus for students only. In the afternoon the 1550 228 journey from Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School to Crowborough will also be for students only. An additional bus will start from Tunbridge Wells Royal Victoria Place at 1610, running to Crowborough and Jarvis Brook via Showfields. Normal service on Saturdays.
  • 231– Normal schooldays service apart from the following: On the 0735 journey from Uckfield, only students are allowed on the section of route between Heathfield High Street and Heathfield College. The 1515 journey from Heathfield College is for students only as far as Heathfield fire station. Seaford & District’s 0730 journey from Hurst Green is for students only until Heathfield College. Their 1435 journey from Uckfield is for students on the section of route between Heathfield High Street and Hurst Green
  • 261– On schooldays extra buses for students only will run as follows: 0750 Forest Row Brambletye to East Grinstead; 0806 East Grinstead to Uckfield; 1550 Uckfield to Nutley.
  • 492/493 – Normal schooldays services, for students only. Including extra afternoon 492.

Community Transport for the Lewes Area (CTLA)

Cuckmere Buses

Cuckmere Buses plan to resume all services to their pre-Covid timetables from 12 April, subject to Government announcements on the easing of lockdown restrictions.

  • 25 – This Saturday service is suspended. Expected to restart Saturday 17 April, though will not serve Charleston Farmhouse whilst it remains closed.
  • 26– Service suspended. Expected to restart from Sunday 18 April.
  • 36/37– Service suspended. Expected to restart from Saturday 17 April.
  • 38– Service suspended. Expected to restart from Thursday 15 April.
  • 40– Tuesday service suspended. Full Tuesday and Friday service expected to restart from Tuesday 13 April.
  • 41– Tuesday service suspended. Thursday morning service operate throughout with return from Eastbourne retimed to 1210 and running from Friston via Jevington and Wannock back to Eastbourne. Thursday afternoon service suspended. Full Tuesday and Friday service expected to restart from Tuesday 13 April.
  • 42- Normal Wednesday only service.
  • 43– Service suspended. Expected to restart from Monday 12 April.
  • 44– Tuesday service suspended. Thursday morning service operating with one bus from Stud Farm at 0920, then 0927 Glen Close. Return journey retimed to depart Eastbourne at 1310. 1130 return remains suspended. Thursday afternoon service suspended. Full Tuesday and Thursday service expected to restart from Tuesday 13 April.
  • 45– This Friday only service is running between Hailsham Lion House Park and the Hampden Park supermarkets only to allow for essential shopping. Departs Lion House Park 1000, Hampden Park Sainsbury’s 1155 and Hampden Park Morrisons 1200. Expected to restart full service from Friday 16 April.
  • 47– This seasonal only service is now suspended. Expected to restart from Saturday 17 April. Ramblerbus service 47 will be affected by the long term closure of Station Road, Berwick, and will operate to a special timetable when it resumes.
  • 49– Service suspended. Expected to restart from Wednesday 14 April.
  • 120- Running on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings only. The Tuesday and Thursday afternoon service is suspended (Compass Travel are providing the Saturday afternoon service). Cuckmere Buses 120 service suspended on all other days. Expected to restart full Monday to Saturday service from Monday 12 April.
  • 126- Running on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays mornings only. The Tuesday and Thursday afternoon service is suspended (Compass Travel are providing the Saturday afternoon service). Expected to restart full Monday to Saturday service from Monday 12 April.   • 195/196– These Wednesday only services are suspended. Expected to restart from Wednesday 14 April.
  • H1/H3/H4 – Running on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. The afternoon service is suspended. Expected to restart full Monday to Saturday service from Monday 12 April.

  • 258 – Available to school/college students only. A separate afternoon minibus is now being for students living in the Bells Yew Green area.

Metrobus

  • 270 – Revised timetable on Mondays to Fridays. No changes to Saturday and Sunday timetables.
  • 271/ 272 – Normal services. From Tuesday 6 April, due to the expected 3 months closure of the B2112 in the Fox Hill area for South East Water works, the 271/272 will be unable to serve Fox Hill, St George’s Retreat and Janes Lane. During this closure period Compass Travel’s service 166 will be revised and provide a limited replacement service between Wivelsfield Ote Hall Chapel, St George’s Retreat, Janes Lane and Haywards Heath. Connections will be available at Worlds End, Valebridge Road to/from Compass Travel’s Burgess town service 35A/35C. See Metrobus website for more information.
  • 291 – Schooldays service including: The second 0718 bus from East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells Bennett Memorial School is for students only. There is an extra bus for students only at 1436 from Sackville School to Tunbridge Wells (not serving Tunbridge Wells Town Centre). The 1545 from Bennett Memorial School is for students only up until Forest Row, Post Horn Lane. No changes to the Saturday and Sunday timetables.

North Wealden Community Transport (Wealdlink)

  • 360, 361– These Bexhill College services will restart for students only, according to the College’s requirements.
  • 381– Normal service, for students only.
  • 382 – Normal service.
  • 383 – Normal service, for students only.

Rye & District Community Transport

  • 326 – Normal timetable on Mondays to Fridays. No service on Saturdays until further notice. The Rye and district dial a ride service continues to operate for those still needing to make vital journeys. For bookings telephone 01797 227722.

Seaford & District

  • 142 – Normal service, for students only.
  • 149 – Service for students only. From Tuesday 6 April, due to the expected 3 months closure of the B2112 in the Fox Hill area for South East Water works, this service will follow a diversion between Haywards Heath Rocky Lane and Wivelsfield Ote Hall Chapel. Due to the length of the diversion, times between Scaynes Hill and Haywards Heath will be significantly revised. Details will be communicated to Chailey School and service users directly.
  • 150 – Normal service, for students only.
  • 227 – Normal service, for students only.
  • 265 – Normal service, for students only.
  • 266,267,268,269 – Normal services, for students only.
  • 318 – Running to the revised temporary timetable, including extra journey between Laughton and King’s Academy. For students only.
  • 331 – Normal service, though for students only between Hurst Green and Heathfield College. An extra journey for students only runs between Burwash Strand Meadow and Heathfield College
  • 468 – Running to the revised temporary timetable, including the extra journey between Plumpton Green and Chailey School. For students only.
  • Eastbourne Sightseeing Service– Suspended for the Winter period. From Spring 2021 this service will be provided by Seven Sisters Bus & Coach.

Normal timetables are in operation with the following exceptions:

Eastbourne area, including Polegate, Hailsham, Uckfield, Heathfield, Mayfield and Rotherfield.

  • 5,5A – The 1526 5A from Langney to Sovereign Harbour runs up to 5 minutes later and the 1559 from Langney to Beachlands runs up to 5 minutes later.
  • 6,57,58 – The journeys serving Willingdon School is for students only. The afternoon journeys depart the school 5 minutes later.
  • 54 – On schooldays the 1322 from Uckfield terminates at the District General Hospital.
  • 99 – An extra bus, for students only, runs on the 0734 journey from Bexhill to Eastbourne. This is intended for St Catherine’s College students. In the afternoon extra buses for students runs from the A259 Tanbridge Road bus stop at about 1525 and 1625, following the normal 99 route to Bexhill.
  • 252 – The schooldays only 0723 from Heathfield is for students only, as is the 1600 from Southborough. The schooldays only 0725 from Tunbridge Wells to Heathfield Community College is for students only, as is the afternoon return journey at 1510 from the college. An additional vehicle now runs between Mayfield and Heathfield College both morning and afternoon.
  • 501 – The afternoon journey now departs 30 minutes earlier at 1455.

Hastings area, including Bexhill, Ninfield, Battle, Robertsbridge, Ticehurst, Wadhurst, Bodiam, Westfield, Northiam, Peasmarsh, Rye, Camber, Winchelsea.

  • 21/21A – The 0807 21A journey from Hastings Station to Ore King’s Head is for students only. The 1519 21 journey from Ore King’s Head to Hastings Station is for students only.
  • 22 – The 0816 journey from Silverhill to Harley Shute is for students only. The 1520 from Harley Shute to Silverhill is for students only.
  • 28 – An extra bus, for students only, runs on the 0746 journey from Hastings Station to ARK Alexandra Academy, serving both sites. In the afternoon an extra 28 bus for students serves both sites, starting at William Parker at 1520 on all schooldays.
  • 66 – This Hastings seafront open top bus service, between Hastings Old Town and Harley Shute, restarts for the Summer period from 1 May to 5 September inclusive. Mainly an hourly service as per the 2019 timetable, running on weekends to 24 July, then daily over the school holiday period.
  • 70 – This service is for students only.
  • 73 - This service is for students only. The afternoon journey from ARK Alexendra Academy (William Parker site) runs at 1520 on all schooldays
  • 74 - This service is for students only
  • 95 – The 0735 from Little Common to Bexhill Academy and Claverham College runs 5 minutes earlier. This journey is for students only. There is an extra bus, morning and afternoon, between Ninfield and Claverham College, for students only, on the 320 route. The 0740 from Conquest Hospital is for students only as far as Claverham College, whilst the afternoon return bus from Claverham College has an extra bus. The 1400 from Conquest Hospital diverts into Bexhill Academy at 1445 and does not serve Morgan Close. The 1530 from Claverham College to Little Common is for students only. The 1610 from Conquest Hospital going via ARK Alexandra Academy sites on schooldays will run as the non-schoolday 1600 journey on the normal line of route.
  • 99 – An extra bus, for students only, runs on the 0734 journey from Bexhill to Eastbourne. This is intended for St Catherine’s College students. In the afternoon extra buses for students runs from the A259 Tanbridge Road bus stop at about 1525 and 1625, following the normal 99 route to Bexhill.
  • 101 - An extra bus, for students only, runs via the 101 route at 0747 from Hastings Station to Rye Station and 1530 from Rye Station to Hastings Station.
  • 102 – On Summer weekends and bank holidays from 1 May until 5 September inclusive, this service will be diverted away from Camber and operate via Brenzett between Rye and Lydd. In its place for this period will be additional service 103, mainly running between Rye and Camber. This is in anticipation of the traffic conditions expected in the Camber area, so as to reduce delays to service 102 between Rye, Lydd and Dover.
  • 103 – Replaces service 102 to and from Camber on Summer weekends and bank holidays (see service 102 above).
  • 254 – The 0725 journey from Hawkhurst has an additional bus for students only. The 1545 journey from Bennett Memorial School to Hawkhurst also has an additional journey for students only. Stagecoach are otherwise operating a normal schooldays timetable.
  • 293 – This service is for students only.
  • 304 - Rambler Coaches are running an extra bus to their service 304, between Hastings and Claverham College, both morning and afternoon. This is for students only. There is also an extra bus on the 0800 from Hawkhurst to Robertsbridge and Claverham Colleges, for students only. In the afternoon there is an extra bus from Robertsbridge College to Hawkhurst at 1538
  • 313 – The journeys departing at 0810 from Northiam and 1533 from Rye Station are for students only, on a temporary basis.
  • 320 – This service is for students only. An extra bus is running both morning and afternoon.
  • 347 – An extra bus, for students only, runs on the 1510 journey from Hastings Station.
  • 359 – This service is for students only. An extra bus is being provided both morning and afternoon.
  • 384 – This service is for students only. An extra bus is being provided both morning and afternoon.
  • 553 – This service is for students only.
