East Sussex Active Access for Growth

1. Active Access for Growth - Programme

This Programme has ceased and new Active Travel initiatives will commence in Summer 2021.

In 2017, we were awarded £1.2m from the Department of Transport. This was to deliver a programme of active travel across East Sussex. The first phase ended in 2020, and we were awarded additional funding to extend the scheme to March 2021. The focus of the programme is on the growth areas of:

  • Eastbourne and South Wealden, and.
  • Bexhill and Hastings.

We work in partnership with:

  • Sustrans
  • Living Streets
  • Active Cycling Projects
  • Sussex Community Rail Partnership
  • East Sussex Wheels to Work
  • South Downs National Park
  • Brighton University’s School of Sport and Service Management

Our team are available to help East Sussex residents, employers, job centres, schools, colleges and community groups to explore how walking, cycling or public transport can help you go places.

We engage mainly with:

  • Those that are currently inactive
  • Those struggling to access work opportunities
  • All residents across our target areas

The aim is to broaden education, employment and training opportunities.

In the wake of Covid-19 we have been re-focussing our programme to support the Covid-19 recovery, including projects to support key workers.
