Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge for 4 to 11 year olds takes place in all libraries during the summer holidays.

Sign up at any library. Then read six books of your choice (printed books, audiobooks or eBooks) and collect prizes along the way – all for free.

If you want to try some ebooks for the Challenge visit

You will need your East Sussex library card and PIN to to borrow these from the children’s virtual reading room.

Animal Agents

There have been some mysterious goings on in one of our libraries, thanks to the Animal Agents. You can find out more about the Summer Reading Challenge and exactly what happened by watching Summer Reading Challenge film

So far, over 7500 children have signed up to the Animal Agents Summer Reading Challenge and are busy getting their six books finished for the end on Saturday 9th September.

We really hope your children have enjoyed taking part in this year’s Challenge. You and your children can let us know what you thought of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge by filling out an Animal Agents comments slip in your library or by completing the Animal Agents survey

Visit the Summer Reading Challenge website at any time of year for recommended books, competitions, games, author interviews, and news. You can even add your own book reviews!

Other ways to get involved

We are now signing up volunteers to help with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. You can apply now if you are 13 years or older.
