We are looking for volunteers to help with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. It’s a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and give something back to your community. In return for your time we provide you with training and pay your travel expenses. You can apply if you are 13 years or older.

Summary

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read 6 books during the summer holiday. Working in the library, the Summer Reading Challenge volunteer helps children to register and hands out rewards.

Tasks

  • Helping children with online registration when required
  • Handing out reading rewards
  • Talking to children aged 4 to 11 years and their parents or guardians about books and reading
  • Motivating and encouraging children to complete the challenge
  • Helping to collate statistics at the end of the challenge

Skills required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A friendly and patient manner
  • Customer focus
  • Basic literacy
  • Outgoing and confident
  • Ability to record information accurately
  • Reliable and punctual
