Common problems

1. Overgrown path

The County Council is responsible for clearing any vegetation growing from the surface of the path, whilst landowners are responsible for cutting back hedges and trees growing from the side.

Our Ranger Teams carry out clearance work continuously during the growing season (usually between March and October), covering about 50–100 miles of the network. If you find a path is overgrown please contact the Rights of Way Team and if possible let us know whether it is surface or adjacent vegetation, or both, so that we can contact the landowner if necessary.

Please note, the number of reports we receive about overgrown paths during the summer means that we may not be able to respond immediately, but will will aim to reach every path reported to us at the earliest opportunity.
