The Council has recently undertaken a consultation to implement a further permanent seasonal closure on a Byways to come into force this Winter. More information on this can be found using the link below:

Implementation of new permanent seasonal byway restrictions

For safety reasons we sometimes have to close rights of way while we make repairs or improvements, or during construction work nearby. Longer term closures (21 days or more) can be viewed on our online map and all current closures are listed below.

Current closures

  1. Bexhill Footpath 33 (part) - closed during the construction of a new public house/restaurant and Marston’s Lodge for Marston’s Inn and Taverns.
  2. Bexhill Byway 58a (part) – closure extended: still closed during construction of roundabout. Alternative route available.
  3. Burwash Footpath 56d (part) - closed to carry out essential rebuilding works to the Mill Pond, Park Mill, Bateman’s Estate.
  4. Buxted Footpath 24 – closure extended: still closed due to a bank slippage.
  5. Chailey Byway 8 – closure extended: still closed due to a dangerous bridge – open to all users except vehicles and horse drawn carriages until repair work begins
  6. Ditchling Footpath 37 (part) - closed to protect public safety during the construction of silage clamps and a farmyard manure store.
  7. Forest Row Footpath 13a - closed to protect public safety while a damaged bridge is repaired/replaced.
  8. Framfield Footpath 61b, - closure extended: still closed due to unavailable rail crossing. See also Uckfield footpath 34.
  9. Guestling Footpath 32a (part) - closed for the construction of treatment works
  10. Hailsham Footpath 34a, 34b - closed to protect public safety while a bridge awaits repair. See also Herstmonceux footpath 67.
  11. Hastings Footpath 58a – closure extended: still closed due to subsidence.
  12. Hastings Footpath 97 – closure extended: still closed due to housing development
  13. Hastings Footpath 131a – closure extended: still closed due to construction of the new Queensway Gateway Road
  14. Hastings Footpaths 379a, 364a and 417 (Ecclesbourne Glen) – closure extended: still closed due to landslips.
  15. Hellingly Footpath 55a - short term closure extended: closed to protect public safety. More time is needed to replace a dangerous timber footbridge on the route.
  16. Herstmonceux Footpath 67, - closed to protect public safety whilst a bridge awaits repair. See also Hailsham 34a and 34b.
  17. Horam Footpath 25 – closure extended: still closed during construction. Alternative route available.
  18. Lewes Town Centre Footpath 11a – closed by Network Management to ensure public safety while repairs are carried out to a retaining wall.
  19. Little Horsted Footpath 3 – closure extended: still closed during housing development. Alternative route available.
  20. Newhaven Footpaths 3c and 3e - closed to protect public safety during work to construct a new road (Newhaven Port Access Road).
  21. Newhaven Footpath 6 - to be closed to protect public safety during work to construct a new road (Newhaven Port Access Road).
  22. Plumpton Footpath 17a (part) - closed to to protect public safety while essential repair works are carried out on the railway footbridge.
  23. Polegate Footpath 15 (part) - closed to protect public safety during the construction of a new residential development.
  24. Westfield Byways 50c and 50d – closure extended: still closed to all vehicles.
  25. Uckfield Footpath 34 / Framfield Footpath 61b – closure extended: still closed due to unavailable rail crossing.
